If you enjoy being outdoors and working with plants, then horticulture may be the industry for you. We spoke to lecturer in horticulture specialising in irrigation Neil Marriott, from South Metropolitan TAFE’s Murdoch campus to find out everything you need to know about pursuing a career in horticulture.

If you want to make a difference in someone’s life, you might consider a career in nursing and community services. Whether it’s assisting an elderly person with their medication, teaching a toddler their ABCs, or helping someone overcome mental health or addiction issues — this career path is certainly a rewarding one. 

With a long time passion for cooking, Socoro Pagayon swapped her mathematics degree for a career in the kitchen. She completed three courses – SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and a SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management – at South Metropolitan TAFE’s Bentley campus in order to follow her dream.

Moving to a new city to study can be both a fun adventure and a huge challenge. So, we reached out to TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA) alumni to learn more about their experience, what they’re doing now and what advice they could offer to others considering a similar path.

Deniel Sarmiento, from the Philippines, studied commercial cookery and the SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management at the Bunbury campus of South Regional TAFE. Driven by his passion for cooking, he moved to Australia in the hopes of further developing these skills.
