24 month scholarship study packages (four semesters of study)

There are eight scholarships. The scholarship value is AUD$35,000, comprising AUD$30,000 Destination Australia paid in four AUD$7,500 instalments, plus a one-off payment of the AUD$5,000 Regional Bursary. Eligible primary courses and regional campuses include:

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • be a new international student, commencing an eligible new course with TAFE International WA in Semester 2, 2024 (cannot be a current student);
  • hold a student visa subclass 500 on or before course commencement;
  • be over 18 years of age on or before course commencement;
  • complete an application form, an applicant statement and provide highest academic results for assessment; and
  • meet the academic and English proficiency entry requirements for the chosen course.

  3. Apply online for an eligible TAFE course, and attach your Applicant Statement to your application

Once we receive your application

  • We will email you a confirmation of receipt. 
  • Our selection process considers your eligibility; academic merit; personal statement; and diversity and inclusion in the decision making process. 
  • All applications for Semester 2 will be reviewed after the scholarship application closing date of Monday 22 April 2024. 
  • After careful evaluation of all applications, our team will notify successful candidates via email in May 2024.

Destination Australia Program Scholarship

Scholarship value

AUD$7,500 per semester for the duration of studies.

Purpose

Destination Australia Scholarships are funded by the Commonwealth Government, and are designed to attract and support students who choose to live and study in regional Western Australia. The scholarship provides students with the opportunity to undertake high quality education and training and to experience life in regional and remote Australia.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • be a new international student, commencing an eligible new course with TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA) in Semester 2, 2024 (cannot be a current student);
  • hold a student visa subclass 500 on or before course commencement;
  • be 18 years of age on or before course commencement;
  • complete an application form, an applicant statement and provide highest academic results for assessment; and
  • meet the academic and English proficiency entry requirements for the chosen course.

Rules/criteria throughout scholarship

  • Scholarship students must maintain a full-time enrolment study load for their scholarship course, as well as satisfactory competency progress each semester.
  • There will be no deferrals within the scholarship period. The course must be successfully completed within the duration of the scholarship.
  • The scholarships are not transferrable to other TAFE colleges within WA.
  • Scholarship students must maintain ongoing residency in the nominated regional location for the duration of the scholarship period.
  • Successful candidates will be paid AUD$7,500 per semester by the Department of Training and Workforce Development. Use of this money is at the discretion of the student.
  • Successful candidates must pay their tuition fees direct to TIWA.
  • Scholarship students must always comply with the Student Code of Conduct at the TAFE college.
  • Scholarship students must meet and adhere to the scholarship’s eligibility criteria and rules for the whole duration of the scholarship period to continue to receive ongoing payments.
  • Scholarship students must hold a student visa subclass 500 for the duration of the course.

Payment of scholarship

  • Successful applicants will sign an Offer of Acceptance. Once the Offer of Acceptance is returned to TIWA you will be issued with a scholarship letter to assist with your student visa. 
  • Upon commencement at the TAFE college the International Coordinator will request your bank account details for the payment to be made. Payment will occur within 4 weeks of evidence of residing in the regional location and enrolment at the TAFE college.
  • Payments are made per semester (AUD$7,500 per semester).

Selection committee

The selection committee is made up of TIWA, North Regional TAFE, Central Regional TAFE and South Regional TAFE staff.

Assessment

  • The selection committee will review and assess each student’s application, highest academic results and applicant statement. 
  • Applicants may be interviewed.
  • Applicants will be advised in writing if successful or not.

Applicant statement

Applicant statements must address the following questions.

  • Why have you chosen this course and what are you long term career goals?
  • If you are granted a Destination Australia Scholarship with TIWA, what are your long term aspirations or plans for using your studies to benefit regional Australia?
  • Have you researched accommodation options in the regional area you are considering going to? Do you have accommodation options there?
