Learn English

You can study English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) as a pathway to higher study options.

Our TAFE certificate and diploma courses have specific English language requirements, listed on each course page in our course catalogue.

When you apply directly to TIWA for a TAFE course, our admissions team will assess whether or not you require an English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).  If your current English level cannot be demonstrated through other accepted means (eg other tests, certifications, or previous English/Schools studies that are sufficient), you may be eligible for a TIWA English Placement Test. Note that certificates are never shared with test-takers.

Should ELICOS be necessary, a conditional Letter of Offer outlining the number of weeks required will be issued. While ELICOS is not offered at TIWA, you can package your English studies with one of TIWA’s partner English language colleges.  You simply choose the provider of your choice and contact them directly to organise a packaged offer.

The minimum level of English proficiency required for entry to most TAFE courses is the equivalent of an overall academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.5 with no individual band score lower than 5.0. For some countries we may accept your high school English results.
