Achieving a childhood dream in early childhood education: Giselle Vergara

I am studying the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at Central Regional TAFE, Kalgoorlie Campus. I first heard about the regional bursary initiative when CR TAFE Kalgoorlie sent me an email regarding our orientation. I decided to apply because I really needed some financial assistance as being an international student can be hard because of the bills and tuition fees.

How do you plan to use this qualification for your future career?

Ever since I was young, I have always wanted a job working with children. I have this innate enthusiasm with kids and this course has given me the knowledge and skills to be able to deliver services to the children professionally.

I’m currently applying what I’m learning in the course at the child care centre that I am currently working for. I’m using my newfound skills and knowledge to be a good and effective educator to the children.

How have you found the facilities at Kalgoorlie campus?

We have great facilities as well as the best lecturers. Our classrooms are very conducive for learning and we have complete facilities to use for our course.

How long have you been living in Kalgoorlie?

I started my course on July 17 2023 so I’ve been here for over two months now. Australia offers a lot of job opportunities even for students and the people here have been very friendly to me.

Have you found a part-time job?

Yes, I am currently working as a casual educator at a local child care centre. It’s a very nice centre. My manager, educational leaders and colleagues are very friendly and are always willing to help. They are guiding me on how to provide professional services to the children.

Would you recommend the regional bursary to other students?

Yes. I definitely would. Other students should do their best to apply because this is a very good opportunity for international students.
