About this course

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) form an integral part of any commercial building construction and have a major impact on the built environment, human comfort and energy use. If you have an interest in this industry then the HVAC pathway of MEM50212 Diploma of Engineering – Technical is a great course to start your career in this expanding industry.

During your studies, you will develop a number of skills including the ability to design and implement HVAC systems using thermodynamics principles, an understanding of psychometric processes and the principles of energy management. You will have opportunities to use building information modelling software, produce engineering drawings and understand the requirements of workplace health and safety. When you complete your studies you will have all the basic fundamentals and confidence to work with a number of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems used across a number of industries.

The HVAC facilities at South Metropolitan TAFE, are considered to be Western Australia’s premier centre for heating, ventilation and air conditioning studies. The purpose-built facility is among the best in the southern hemisphere. When considering this course, please be aware that this is engineering based, and will not result in a trade qualification being issued.

Admission requirements

  • An IELTS score (academic) of 5.5 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent.

  • Equivalent to Australian Year 12 with a demonstrated proficiency in Maths at Year 11 level.

Tuition fees

Resource fees

Resource fees are for consumables used by a student in the course of their study e.g. paint, internet use etc. This fee is paid to your college at enrolment.

If your course goes for two semesters or more, the resource fee may not need to be paid in one amount but may be spaced out over the duration of your courses. Your college will advise you of the payment amount each semester.

Material fees

​The Materials fee includes any item that remains the property of a student after the course has been completed e.g. personal protective equipment, tools, text books etc... This fee is paid to your college at enrolment.
