About this course

If you are creative and technical minded, and love architecture, then you will enjoy studying 52757WA Certificate IV in Residential Building Drafting. This course gives you the skills to prepare drawings, estimates and plans and liaise with architects, builders and contractors of residential single and double storey buildings. You will learn how to present and document building projects using both manual and computer-aided drafting techniques that are relevant to current industry trends and practices.

You will also gain an insight into building materials, construction methods, social and environmental aspects of residential construction projects and principles of passive solar and environmental design. This course also covers the rules and regulations for council approval and the theory, knowledge and practical skills required to gain the building permit for on-site construction of single and double story residential buildings.

This course is practical and hands on with part of the course dedicated to students designing and documenting a residential project with an industry mentor. This experience will prove valuable in gaining employment and enhancing your career in this industry.

  • An IELTS score (academic) of 5.5 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent.

  • Equivalent to Australian Year 11 with a "C" grade in Maths.

If your course goes for two semesters or more, the resource fee may not need to be paid in one amount but may be spaced out over the duration of your courses. Your college will advise you of the payment amount each semester.

Material fees

​The Materials fee includes any item that remains the property of a student after the course has been completed e.g. personal protective equipment, tools, text books etc... This fee is paid to your college at enrolment.
