If music is your passion and you want to refine your skills, then advance your performance talent through this high level qualification. This course focuses on teaching you the skills required for performance, song arranging, composing and creating online events, home recordings and online musical collaboration.

During your studies, you will develop your analytical, performance and creative skills under the guidance of highly experienced industry lecturers and mentors. You will acquire skills in stagecraft and live performance, and learn techniques for networking with industry professionals, such as promotors, publishers, venue bookers, producers, artists and songwriters.

On completion of this course, you will have refined your skills as a songwriter and performer, and developed, produced and released your own recording product, which will be your calling card to the music industry.

To achieve this qualification, students must demonstrate competency in 15 units. These 16 are comprised of 4 core units and 11 elective units. Elective units listed below have been selected in consultation with industry.

Assessment methods

The methods of assessment used in this course is requires a practical, hands on approach with students applying their knowledge and skills through practical activities, completion of portfolios of activities and performances/productions which will be undertaken in on campus Live Venue and studios, as well as public music performance venues. The required knowledge is assessed through knowledge-based tests.

These assessment strategies and evidence gathering are in accordance with the relevant training package or accreditation guidelines. Detailed Information is available in the assessment matrix, learning plans and assessment tools for each of the units of competency. Assessors use the matrix to ensure assessments, are undertaken across the duration of the course, rather than clustered together at particular times.

Learning resources, facilities and equipment

The following learning resources, facilities and equipment are available at each campus so that you can achieve the skill and knowledge requirements of this course. 

 

 

Learning resources may include access to Blackboard, music CDs or digital tracks, handouts/ worksheets, rehearsal diary, PowerPoint/ Keynote handouts, portable recording equipment, sheet music, copyright workbook and reference materials.

 

Facilities and equipment may include access to instrumentation, fully equipped rehearsal studios, recording studios and editing suites, fully equipped Jamhub rooms, industry standard live venue, Mac & PC labs, Macbook Airs, specialised software such as Logic, ProTools, Auralia, Sibelius, a fully equipped store and earplugs and other PPE as required.
