​​​West Coast Institute student wins national culinary competition

North Metropolitan TAFE recently hosted the Australian Culinary Federation Fonterra Foodservice National Apprentice Competition Final at its Joondalup Campus.

Students from all over Australia prepared dishes for the competition and enjoyed a week of friendship, networking and education which culminated in a Gala Dinner at North Metropolitan TAFE.

The Western Australian students won many awards, with top honours in the Culinary Student division awarded to international student Kuo Cheng (Charlie) Lin from Taiwan who is studying the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery at North Metropolitan TAFE.

I have had amazing experiences at North Metropolitan TAFE which will help me in the future" said Charlie.

The event is a culmination of many competitions being held throughout the year in each state and territory and includes training chefs in each year of apprenticeship and a culinary students section.

The best apprentice from each apprentice year and culinary student section from each state and territory are brought together to compete and decide the overall winners.

​The numbers of competitors, training schools, culinary educators that the event touches is staggering with in excess of 4,000 culinary students and teachers, each with links to industry resulting in exposure to over 10,000 chefs throughout Australia.
