Two international students were recently recognised with International Student of the Year awards at the Student Awards ceremony for South West Institute of Technology (now part of South Regional TAFE).

Helen Sin was the winner of the International Student of the Year for 2015. Helen is from Hong Kong and completed a Diploma of Hospitality.

Helen said she enjoyed studying at TAFE. "The teachers were so knowledgeable and helpful during my 18 months of study. They gave us many opportunities to connect with the hospitality industry."

Helen said the practical experiences provided through her training helped her to further understand Australian Culture and give her exposure to events such as the Gourmet Escape and the Margaret River Business Awards.

Helen said winning the International student of the Year award was a complete surprise. She wanted to thank all her lecturers and friends for their support and said that living and studying in the South West of Western Australia offered a great lifestyle.

"I sent a message about the award to my family and friends back home who are very proud of me."

Leila Galega was the Runner up International Student of the Year for 2015. Leila is from Italy and completed a Certificate IV in Horticulture. Leila is currently studying a Diploma of Horticulture.
