In October 2018, the Asian Education Forum’s Asia-Pacific Vocational Education International Cooperation Summit in Chengdu, China named
South Metropolitan TAFE one of the 50 best vocational colleges in the Asia Pacific region.
UNESCO and the Chinese Ministry of Education established the conference, which brings together political leaders, universities and ambassadors from across 26 countries.
The award recognises vocational colleges that have made outstanding contributions to vocational education and training within Asia-Pacific. South Metropolitan TAFE was one of only three Australian TAFE’s to be honoured.
This award is a testament to the longstanding commitment of South Metropolitan TAFE to quality training in both Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
The General Manager Training Services at South Metropolitan TAFE Ms Brenda Micale, said "SM TAFE is pleased and proud to accept this prestigious international award. SM TAFE has developed strong partnerships with Chinese partners that are committed to delivering excellent outcomes for students and local employers."
The top 50 list includes Australian TAFE providers Melbourne Polytechnic and Kangan Institute as well as vocational colleges from China, USA, Russia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Japan and Malaysia.
