For US graduate Gerald Case, who now manages the installation and maintenance of speed cameras, his decision to study engineering at South Metropolitan TAFE at the Fremantle campus, was a life-changing experience.
As befitting his current role, speed was an important element in his decision to complete his Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology – Electrical at South Metropolitan TAFE.
“TAFE International Western Australia provided a speedy offer, compared to other institutions across Australia who were slow to respond to my application.”
“For someone with a family, who was living overseas and making arrangements to move to a new country in a short period of time, their prompt communication was helpful and reassuring,” Gerald said.
Communication remained an important aspect throughout Gerald’s studies.
He praised the college’s thorough network of support services, from formal programs to lecturers willing to provide assistance at any time of day.
“I was a frequent visitor to the International Student Support Office, using the printers and computers there.”
“The Career Development Service assisted with job search advice in relation to the engineering sector and I received useful feedback on my resume that helped ensure it was clear, comprehensive and professional”.
“I also attended a workshop on navigating the transition from student life to graduate employment, which was very informative,” Gerald said.
His studies also offered an insightful look into the Australian lifestyle and culture, with trips to Rottnest Island and a stay on a working farm in regional Western Australia.
As a married father of a toddler, Gerald said studying in Fremantle was an experience he would recommend to anyone.
“Perth is a beautiful city and the beaches, parks and affordable, or free, family attractions around Fremantle, and the interesting architecture, make living here a wonderful experience.”
