​Polytechnic West's Aviation Programs Designed to Meet Global Industry Demands

Tour of plane and other aviation training facilities

In October Western Australia's largest aviation training provider South Metropolitan TAFE demonstrated the impressive facilities and training pathways available to international aviation students at their Aerospace Training Centre.

At the session, education agents and education counsellors enjoyed a tour of extensive facilities at Jandakot Airport, including: 

  • A 1500 square meter hangar that houses South Metropolitan TAFE’s own Boeing 737 aircraft 
  • Mechanical and electronic labs
  • Various light aircraft
  • Dedicated classrooms to ensure students can study in an environment similar to what they may encounter in the workplace

Aviation training pathways​ are offered to international students from Certificate III level through to Associate Degree courses. 

The 2014 Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook​, a respected industry forecast of personnel demand, projects that to fly and maintain the world fleet over the next 20 years, there will be a need for 533,000 new commercial airline pilots and 584,000 new maintenance technicians. To support this anticipated growth, the aviation industry will need a variety of skilled personnel working across many different area and South Metropolitan TAFE's aviation courses are designed to develop graduates with job-ready skills. 

South Metropolitan TAFE offers courses that may lead to jobs such as ground operations technician, aircraft refueling technician and airport manager.
