Diploma of Events students at TAFE International Western Australia enjoyed a great opportunity to work with industry professionals at the Perth Careers Expo in May 2016. The four day event saw 78 exhibitors and attendance from over 11,000 visitors including school children.
The events students worked with event staff to set up and assist general event
needs in busy logistics roles. They coordinated the arrivals and departures of
schools in and out of the expo. Students were put to the test, locating lost students
and allocating students to correct buses.
The event organiser gave positive feedback and thanked the Diploma of Events
team for their efforts.
Zimbabwean student Amanda Carosella said, "At the Careers Expo 2016, I gained
networking opportunities and experience on the job. I gained confidence in myself in
talking with other people in a professional capacity."
Mauritian student Youvanah Moorghen Poinen said, "Careers Expo has given me a
chance to see a large scale event and the opportunity to be responsible in an events
logistics role as I managed the schools coming in and out of the event."
"Also I understood the importance of attention to detail in all tasks to ensure that
processes are followed to avoid a critical situation. It gave me the chance to learn
from others in the industry and network with them as they were welcoming and made
the event a positive experience."
