Ananda Paiva from Brazil has been named the International Student of the year at the 2018 WA Training Awards. The WA Training Awards recognise the dedication, innovation and excellence of individuals and organisations across 12 prestigious categories.

Ananda trained in the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery course at North Metropolitan TAFE, transforming her passion for cooking into a career. To gain industry experience, Ananda used her training at TAFE to volunteer at a City Beach restaurant and she now works as a chef at a renowned Perth bar.

Ananda says, "Commercial Cookery is a course where we learn everything, from how to hold a knife, how to work as a cook, as a chef, under high pressure. I'm really happy because I'm studying here and I was talking to my mother in Brazil, and she was like, I think I'm going to study as well… learning to be a chef like you… when I go back to Brazil I really want to teach people how to start in the kitchen and give all the knowledge."
